Greenbelt Dog Park
Access
Currently, the Greenbelt Dog Park is limited to residents of Greenbelt who have purchased a Dog Park License at the office of Community Development and Planning in the Community Center located at 15 Crescent Road in Greenbelt. Licenses are $5 for the life of the dog and those applying must provide proof that dogs are up-to-date on shots and have a current Prince George's County license.
The park, thanks to a wonderful donation by Pepco, has lights and is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Expectations
All dogs must have the dog park license on their collar or leash. Random checks are done by Greenbelt Animal Control and Greenbelt Police at the park to ensure proper use and licensing.
Double gates have been installed on both the large and small sides of the park to allow safe transfer of dogs into the park. Dogs should be unleashed before entering the main park while they are in between the double gates.
Clean up after your dog.
Pay close attention to your dog and keep it out of trouble. Train your dog at the park so it will obey basic commands even while playing.
Call your dog away from the gate while other dogs are entering or leaving.
The following behavior could start a dog fight. Beware!
-
Eating (not allowed in the dog park),
-
Playing ball or frisbee,
-
Running or noisy children,
-
Bringing your dog's toys to the dog park.
Acceptable or unacceptable dog behavior depends on the age and temperament of your dog. Dogs will bark, snarl, and even snap at each other as part of their normal socialization. Interfere and stop the interaction if it appears to be escalating into a fight.
Immediately stop aggressive behavior towards humans.
Don't give treats to other dogs without asking the owner's permission.
Always open and close the dog park gate carefully. Do not bring your dog to the dog park if it is sick, has parasites, or has fleas.
